NOSCI promotion event in Montenegro

The memorandum of cooperation within the national initiative of open science clouds in Montenegro was signed by nine Montenegrin higher education and scientific research institutions, whose representatives met for the first time at the constitutive session at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Montenegro (UoM), on January 26, 2022. The meeting was organized by the coordinating body of the National Open Science Cloud Initiative in Montenegro, led by prof. Božo Krstajić, who is also team-leader of UoM NI4OS-Europe team.

“Today, a prosperous project begins, which confirms the maturity of the academic community and the full readiness of that community to accept European norms and standards,” said the dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, prof. Sasa Mujovic, at the opening of the session. “Every new challenge and problem is an invitation to science to show its superiority and offer us the best solution,”

said Dean Mujović.

Prof. Božo Krstajić, states that the founders of this initiative, i.e. the initial signatories of the Memorandum, in addition to the four units from the University of Montenegro, are the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts, Faculty of Information Systems and Technologies, University of Donja Gorica, Faculty of Information Technology Institute for Rehabilitation and Rheumatology “Dr Simo Milošević” and Institute for Modern Technologies. The holder of this initiative at the University of Montenegro (UoM) is the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and from UoM, the initiative was joined by the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the Institute of Marine Biology and the Center of Excellence for Research and Innovation.

“We expect that other scientific research and educational institutions that accept the principles of open science and want to participate in the work of the National Open Science Cloud Initiative in Montenegro will join us in the coming period.”

Said prof. Krstajić.

“The basic concept of open science implies that the results of publicly funded scientific research, data and publications, are made available to all interested actors in society, free of charge,”

said prof. Enis Kočan.

He points out that the purpose of the Memorandum is to support the initiative for identification of resources, methods and tools for infrastructure development, which will enable storage, mutual exchange and use of research data, scientific papers, services and results, in accordance with the principles of open science.
